This research project is focused on monitoring milkweed species and monarchs in central and southern Alberta. Monarch butterfly surveys and surveys on other butterfly species in Alberta will also be completed. Additionally, native milkweed species will be planted in local protected areas. Milkweed will also be shared with the community to plant in their own gardens.

Citizen science and community engagement is an important part of this research project. Making butterfly and other pollinator education and research more engaging and accessible to the community is vital for conservation efforts.
Another focus of this project is creating educational resources and a community resource guide on monarch butterfly and other pollinator conservation and education in Alberta. Follow the project for updates on the release of these materials.
